Unit 7-My Ambitions And Progress

Interview- Skills and Goals 18/9/19

1. What performing arts skills and abilities do you have? What can you bring to the course?

I've been singing, acting and dancing since I was 4 so I have a lot of experience in all 3. I have a real love for musical theatre so that helps me bring enthusiasm to the course. I'm also very determined and will work to improve a skill that I want to perfect.

1b. Give yourself a score for each of your skills.
Singing: 6
Dance: 5
Acting: 8
Performance: 7

2. Where have you demonstrated these in the past?

I've gone to Spirit Young Performers Company for over 2 years. I've done a lot pf school shows and workshops. I've done a lot different classes and always brought a drive to improve and willing to take corrections.

3. What do you consider to be your strongest skills and which do you need to improve the most?

My strongest skill is definitely acting. I need to improve dance the most because my technique is very far from what I want it to be. I also need to work on the higher end of my range in singing to ensure it is as strong as my chest voice is.

4. What particular practical/technical skills would you like to work on/ gain/ improve?

I want to improve my dance technique, especially thing like leaps, flexibility and turns. I would also like to improve my ballet skills and I know improving that would be helpful in furthering my skills in jazz technique as well.

5. How would you assess your study skills? Are you confident with research and essay writing? Are you goof at keeping up to date with your work or do you tend to get behind? Have you had a problem with lateness in the past?

I would say I'm alright in most areas. I'm okay with research and have a lot of experience in essay writing, having done 3 essay-based A-levels for a year. However, I do have a problem with getting behind but I have never had a problem with lateness.

6. Are there any particular weaknesses you struggle with in your academic work?

Planning and procrastination.

7. What are your ambitions for a future career or study at the end of your course?

I want to go onto a professional musical theatre college such as the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama or ArtsEd and then go into professional performing full-time.

8. What skills and behaviours will you need to use to achieve your future goals and how will you get them?

I'll need determination, perseverance and a thick skin. I'll need to practice a lot and constantly strive for improvements as well as take on board any corrections I'm given in class.

My 1st Half Term Progress 5/11/18

1. What have I learned? What skills have you gained/ improved?
I've definitely learned a lot of ballet as before starting to the course I had very limited knowledge of it. I've also improved a lot of the basic jazz steps I've previously glossed over in my more advanced classes and this helps to improve my overall technique.

I've gained new skills in ballet and I've learned terminology I hadn't known previously.

2.What do you need/ want to work on now? What are your priorities for skills development?
My priority is still to improve my dancing first and foremost. I feel like it is still a long way behind my singing and acting skills and I really want to get them all on the same or similar level.

3. Was there a "highpoint" for you?
I enjoyed all the half term but singing and jazz and musical theatre classes stood out as as the things I enjoyed the most out of my classes.

4. Set 2 targets for yourself this half term.
1. Improve how quickly I'm able to retain choreography in Jazz
2. Improve my posture and ballet ability

My 2nd Half Term Skills and Goals 14/01/19

1. What other skills and experience have you improved, developed or gained over the first term?
I think I've improved the speed at which I pick up choreography. I also think my posture and ballet technique has improved a lot as I can execute the moves much more cleanly and I understand a lot more of the terminology.
1b. Give yourself a number from 1-10 for singing, acting, dance and performance skills:
  • singing: 6.5
  • acting: 8
  • dance: 6
  • performance: 7
2. Where do you think you have demonstrated these?

I did a show over Christmas and had a lot of choreography to pick up in a span of a few weeks which managed to do. I had to act, sing and dance throughout the show so I was able to showcase these skills. I also demonstrated these in the 2 small showcases we did in college performing One Short Day, Cinema Italiano and a movement piece "I Object"

3. What skill or achievement are you most pleased with?
I've improved my dance ability a lot- I'm still not happy with where I'm at as I feel I have a long way to go but I know I'm making progress.

4. What do you consider to be your strongest skill and which need most improvement?
I consider acting to be strongest skill by a long way. My dance definitely needs the most improvement which I'm determined to really work on.

5. Are there any other skills you would like to work on?
I want to work on expanding my singing repertoire.

6. Has anything changed in terms of your ambitions for a future career or study since you began the course?
I still want to go onto a Musical Theatre school like Mountview or ArtsEd but I will now also audition to acting schools and courses as this is where my greatest strength lies and will be a good option should I not get into Musical Theatre college.

7. What skills do you need to work on in term 2 to build towards your future goals and how will you do this?
I need to work on my dance skill overall but specifically my technique and my choreography pick-up. To improve this I will have at least 30 mins solo studio time every week to work on technique on my own. I will also start attending Pineapple classes to help me to practice picking up choreography faster.
